GUEST

COUNTRY

& STATE

Each edition, DWM incorporates into its program a country with a strong commitment to design, such as Brazil (2013), United Kingdom (2014), Italy (2015) and Germany (2016), and a state with a unique artisan production, among them, Chiapas (2015) and Jalisco (2016). This national and international collaboration showcases other design cultures in Mexico and around the globe.

Tamayo—DWM

Pavillion

A multidisciplinary reflexion exercise that connects Tamayo Museum’s interior with Chapultepec’s Forest through a temporary installation. The project is a result of national and international architects and designers collaboration.

An initiative that showcases and rewards contemporary Mexican design through an exhibition with over 40 launching pieces from diverse design studios at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Rufino Tamayo. DWM’s Award is granted to the most outstanding project in the categories of social impact, function, aesthetics, concept, user experience, materials and production process, to support the production of the winning piece.

Visión & Tradición

A residency program for young designers from both, Mexico and the Guest Country, which promotes the collaboration with artisans from the Guest State. The pieces generated during this residence create a dialogue between traditional crafts and contemporary design and are later exhibited at the Tamayo Museum.

The use of colour, materials and narratives in Mexican tradition is dense and vivid, making for a unique culture. Revisiting traditional Mexican crafts, the program allows designers to inform their own practice by connecting it to craftsmanship, giving it a unique perspective.
