Ensamble Artesano

About us

We are a collaborative platform made up of organizations and projects whose meeting point is creative, local and responsible design and production. We believe that design is a bridge that can strengthen communities, find solutions, and link innovation with social and economic empowerment.

Fundación Haciendas del Mundo Maya, Taller Maya, México Territorio Creativo, Design Week Mexico and Caralarga we joined forces to create a space for exchange and collaboration with artisan communities that preserve the heritage and cultural identity of our country, and that at this time, given COVID-19's health contingency is seriously affected by social isolation measures.

We believe that the context of uncertainty in which we are immersed must be faced with proposals that bet on collaboration, solidarity and a sustained network that guarantees access to fair income for those most vulnerable families and communities.

What do we do?

Ensamble Artesano is an initiative that seeks to face the uncertainty triggered by this health contingency through collaboration, innovation and the celebration of artisanal techniques that survive thanks to the communities that continue to use them.

We seek to promote craft creation and recognition of the value of this work through collaborative and horizontal ties, in order to guarantee income to communities that are currently facing the consequences of social distancing.

In order to maintain the formal value chains that already exist and that have served as a source of income for a vulnerable sector of the population, we seek to support formally established groups of artisans. Since the beginning of the contingency, we have placed requests for design pieces and handicrafts from micro-companies that work with representative techniques of the ancestral knowledge of the peoples of our country.

What we want?

  • Contribute to the maintenance of artisanal activity within the formal economy as a source of income for vulnerable populations in the face of damage to their value chain.
  • Support groups of formal artisans with craft requests.
  • We will reach a minimum of 2,500 people / artisans (approximately 20,000 people indirectly, considering the economic dependents of each participant of the artisan groups) in a period of 3 months.

How we are doing it:

Generating a collection of limited edition products for the public to support craft companies.
